Hand in My Hair Syndrome

Ever since I did the BC ( which is now officially more than a month ago!! ), I have not been able to keep my hands out of my hair! In fact, in my YouTube vid talking about my Big Chop, I was there with my fingers roaming through my hair (could barely twirl it,lol). Someone was kind enough to diagnose me with the HIMH (Hand In My Hair) syndrome right then and there! *smile*. Anyways, I’m sitting here at my desk at school getting work done with one hand on the keyboard and the other unconsciously twirling my favorite curls in my head (yes…I do have favorites! lol). I even twirl my curls when I’m driving. It sounds sad, I know but I know I can’t be alone!! Any others who have been diagnosed with this oh so enjoyable syndrome??? : )

Btw, I have a ton of blog posts in my head that I’m anxious to share with you guys. Don’t worry though, FIRST I will def. fill you guys in on all the Carol’s Daughter celeb party goodness tonight. Till then….be blessed chicas! : )

I am right there with you.

It's all I ever do! In the car, at the movies, on the bus, anything that doesn't require two hands, one is up in my head! It's sooo fun, though; I can't help myself. :)

I'm the same way…and I've been natural for 2 months. I'm thinking about getting kinky twists or something for a few months to give my hair a "break" from me touching it, constantly twisting and braiding it, and washing it way too much! I've been getting better about it though.. Thanks for posting :o )

I haven't even done my big chop yet but I find myself playing with the edges of my hair a lot

Mae, I do the same thing!! LOL! Even while I was reading your blog post I was playing with my hair. I can't help it!

Lol, I hear you….by the way your eyebrows look great!

  6. Miscellaneousable says:

I could only diagnose it because I have the same issue :D And, YES, I have favorite curls to twirl as well. Too funny! What's the cure?

  7. Mrs. Edwards says:

i bc'd on the 20 of august and i cant keep my hand out my hair either!

  8. Jacqueline says:

lol…i can TOTALLY relate…before i cut my hair at all, i just kept touching the growth at the edges (lyk, the back)..now, av BC'd most of the hair and i just can't help myself!! lol…i thnk my hands have found a second home on my head…it just feels sooooo nice!

  9. artgyrl says:

I have this, like, right now. Just washed my hair and put it up in two puffs, and I can't stop twirling the ends.

  10. Renise B says:

LOL! OMG I have totally had this problem since the day I cut my hair. And I really thought I was the only one with a favorite curl! I have 2 that I'm constantly twirling and pulling at. This has to be the best disorder ever! lol! I love being a naturalista!

  11. babydolltash says:

OMG! I can relate… any and everything that the other people have mentioned I am guilty of!

  12. Lily says:

Definitely! Deep conditioning really brings out the curls. I get so excited feeling around and finding ones that are so thick! I heart it, really.

  13. LadyCook says:

It was funny to read this b/c I haven't even BC'd yet, but every time I co-wash or deep condition, I find myself in the mirror touching, rubbing, pulling my curls and waves! LoL I can imagine what I'm going to do once I'm 100%!!

It is my beginning, the start over moment…. but yes i cant keep my hands out my hair either! lol my bf told me the other day " so do you actually think it grew more from yesterday when you were pulling on that tiny behind nap"!lmao hey i love my nappy kinky twa!!!

omg! is THAT what its called?! HIMH syndrome? I had my BC January of 07 BUT only since September 2009 have I stopped flat ironing my hair regularly. Now that I'm always natural I can't stop twirling my fav curls! I noticed the problem but didn't realize the extent until my boss at work (I'm a hostess at a restaurant) pointed it out to me. Oops! prob not a good idea for a host to have her hands her head at the door but I can't help it! haha

  16. Stacy says:

I'm twirling a coil right now!! Eeek! It's a hard habit to break lol!

  17. Aisha says:

Lord, hermana, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I just cut my hair less than three weeks ago and can't keep my hands out of it; and yes, I have favorites that I will find and twirl the heck out of. But now that I am natural, I'm having trouble finding good moisturizers. Things like olive, coconut, and jojoba oil just don't satisfy my thirsty twirls. Any suggestions?

  18. Chicago Chica says:

I have this addiction, and I cannot help it. I love feeling the curls and the texture of my hair. My daughter tells me to leave my hair alone, and let it be. It's just so hard!

  19. Emonica says:

Since I started my transition in November 2010 (my last relaxer was October 2010), I cannot stop touching my new growth. So, I have the syndrome now. My new growth is interesting and fascinating but I am trying to manage both textures before doing the ultimate chop in March. Since reading your growth retention article, I will have to keep my hands out of my head. Thanks for the advice, Mae!

  20. valerie nelson says:

thank you ladies i have the same syndrome. my husband keeps telling me get your hands out of your hair . he seems to think it will come out if i keep touching it.
