The "Morning After TWA" – RESPONSES!

UPDATE (9/10/09) So I’ve been completely overwhelmed (in a good way) by the number of encouraging responses I’ve received re: my “Morning After TWA” video. It’s really gratifying when I find out that what has worked for me ends up working for someone else too! I received this kind of news from a fellow blogger at www.curlingdervish.blogspot.com.

I love LOVE your blog! We BC’d around the same time, so our hair is  pretty much the same length.  I had been in a bit of a rut with my  TWA after wearing twist outs for over a month and was missing  tinkering around in my coils.  Wash and go’s were SO not an option  for me! Living in VA where its frigid in the morning and mild by  noon, a wet head does not feel like sunshine! After a rough morning  waiting for my hair to dry (it didn’t until about 2 pm), I wondered  if there was another option. Of course I turned to natural, chica!  You know my woes!! The morning after TWA video was GENIUS!!! Very  rarely do I jump on board with much, but I figured “its coconut oil  and fingers, how can I go wrong??” so I tried it this morn…and my  hair was soft, defined, shiny, frizz free…I can’t even think of  any other words!! My fiancee loves the fact that ue can play in my  fro-let and not have to wipe shmootz off his hands! Love the blog!  Keep up the great work!! –glamazon0518″

You guys know I LOVE hearing from my readers PERIOD, so never hesitate to send me an email with your questions, pics/info you want shared on the blog, or just a random hello : D (Reach me at goingaunaturale@gmail.com)  *Mae*

ORIGINAL POST (11/8/09)

I received the following message from a reader, and I couldn’t help but shake my head as what she was describing, was exactly what my hair looked like as I was reading her message after waking up!

I hope you can answer my question. My TWA is in a very in between phase right now; just long enough to tangle and knot, but still too short for protective styles. It’s also just long enough to dry out, but still too short for me to put it up in a pineapple or anything. As a result, every morning I wake up with mushed knotty hair, causing me to have to co-wash everyday. I’m going through conditioner like crazy! And winter is coming up!
As you can see, I’m freaking out. I’ve noticed that you are one of the few bloggers I follow who are still TWA like me. I’d like to ask you, what do you do to remedy this? What styles have you tried?”

Because I do have this problem, and have found a way to get around it…I decided to make a vid showing what I do with the hopes of helping others who have the “Morning After TWA” blues : D

I know I’m not alone with this problem, so what are things you all have tried???

Update: Shared my video with CurlyNikki today and she decided to put it on her site! I really hope this helps someone!!

Update (11/9/09): This video received “honors” on YouTube for being the #78 top rated video of the day on YouTube. Thanks for watching guys!! : D

oh my girl this video is awesome!! I used to have this problem in my 1st couple months, its drove me nuts. What works for me:
1)using a roomy hair bonnet instead of a scarf or durag (they tend to crush my hair)

    2) massaging my hair with melted shea butter and castor oil/or coconut oil(my new love)

3)if needed I add a little leave-in and just let it wake-up on its own while i shower and get dressed.

This is what works for me, it has really helped!

    Dear Mae,

Since finding your blog months ago, I’ve been meaning to tell you thank you so much for being such an encouragement to women who already are or who are considering going natural! You emit such positivity in your videos and posts. I can tell all that you do comes from your heart. Thank you for helping me and others on this journey, which at times can scary and frustrating. You remind us that this whole natural hair journey should be fun, and we should enjoy every moment of it! I love your tips and techniques, too; very creative!
