Vlogger & Artista Naturalista: Meet Rahmes100!

Meet Rahmes100 (youTube sn)

How long have you been natural? And if you haven’t been natural your whole life, what prompted you to make the change?
I’ve been natural my whole life however I do straighten my hair from time to time without chemical treatment

Do you feel that anything changed in your life (i.e. Boost in confidence) when you became all natural?
When I wear my hair curly I’m a bit more fearless and free. Fearless of rain, humid environments, swimming pools, people touching my hair (which they often ask to do), etc.

When and why did you start your vlog?
I started my posting my poetry videos a little over a year ago in 2008. I decided to do so to check out peoples’ reactions to my work. The reactions were positive so I have continued to post more poetry videos and in return have gained a fan base that I love.

What types of topics do you post on your vlog?

There is no specific topic that I post online, I just post life topics. Gotta keep it real for people to really be able to connect. I write poetry almost everyday but I only share a few online because my poems feel like pages out of my diary sinc I am so honest when I write. Some pages of my Diary are too personal and not for sharing. I try to mostly share poems with a positive message although sometimes the sad poems tend to comfort people as well. I have no specific subject matter, I just write from my life experiences. Poems are like therapy for me. Once I’ve written about it, I can move on from the feeling. Everytime I perform it’s like I take a time machine back to the moment I wrote the poem and I start feeling the way I felt when I wrote it.

What do you love most about vlogging?

I mostly like sharing my work thru visual communication. Theres only so much that a pen and paer or a voice on the phone can make u feel. There’s something about people seeing your eyes that force them to connect and feel what you feel. I understand people more when I see their faces so I feel vlogging alows people to understand the emmotion in my poetry better.

How would you describe your hair?

My hair is alot like me. I can answer this one with a piece of one of my poems I’ve never shared before:

My hair is curly and demanding,
Absolutely outstanding,
Exotically romantic,
Fall in love.
No pauses,
Natural Softness,
When wet it is longest,
So be careful and be cautious,
Just because.
Things aren’t always what they seem to be,
When straightened I appear differently,
Disguise so good yet plain to see,
This side of me is more sexy,
When missing my locks,
I return just to wash,
Me back to my natural state.
So b4 u touch my hair,
Remember to beware,
Before u may play,
U must wait.
To place your touch,
U must earn my love,
U must make my curly passion awake,
Though the strands like to rebel,
They simply await,
The right man who knows,
How to tame my maine:)

My hair and I are very simular and this portion of the poem describes me by using a visual of my hair.

What are 5 products your hair can’t live without?

5 Products my hair can’t live without? I don’t even use 5 products on my hair. I just wash it, condition, sing a few songs to let the conditioner sit in for a few minutes, rinse, brush it while it’s still wet, and walk out the house. If it’s really hot out sometimes I’ll add a tiny drop of leave in conditioner but I’ve found that products weight down my hair. I’m blessed to have naturally soft hair with volume so I try not to do too much to it.

What words would you leave with someone who is thinking about going natural?

I would say to just do it. Alot of my girlfriends back home in Seattle grew out their relaxers and were surprised by how nice the texture of their natural hair was. With all the rain back there it’s so much easier and its a nice change to switch things up once in a while and rock your hair natural. I love you Lainy, Jazmine, and Eula! Rock it ladies!
