From some of my older posts on NaturalChica.com, there is no question about me being a HUGE fan of the ridiculously talented Esperanza Spalding! I had the chance to tune in to the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards and literally held my breath as they announced the winner for Best New Artist- a category that Esperanza was nominated for along with more mainstream, popular artists like Drake and Justin Beiber.
When they finally read the winner’s name and it was Esperanza..my excitement went through the roof! Esperanza has been heavy on the jazz scene (one of my favorite genres of musics) for several years now and it’s so great to see that she’s getting the honor and distinction she deserves! I loved her latest album (Chamber Music Society) and can’t wait till the follow-up album, Radio Music Society is released! I can’t leave out the fact that she looked stunning at the awards ceremony, with a simple but fab upswept natural hair do when she accepted her award, which was then later styled into a fro near the end of the ceremony!

I was happy to see that she had been nominated, and when she won…OMG. It was super exciting for me (my BF likes Drake and thought I was crazy!). But Ms. Spalding is so talented and turned me on to the whole jazz scene about a year ago. I love her work and her hair is AMAZING!
the decision was a no brainer! when President Obama chose her of all artists to play for him at his Nobel Prize Ceremony, I knew she was well on her way!!

I was so happy when i saw she won. It’s good to see real music and musicians are getting the respect and awards they rightfully deserve. With me being a new member of the Grammy Recording Academy and soon to be voting, i will make sure artist like Esperanza Spalding that works hard, gets what rightfully theirs
Not sure what you’ll be doing in June, but Esperanza Spaulding is going to be at the Roots Picnic in Philly on June 4th.
