Blogger Naturalista: Stace
How long have you been natural? And if you haven't been natural your
whole life, what prompted you to make the change?
I have been natural (transitioning) for nearly 7 months. I haven't BC'd just yet as I reluctantly did so at age 15 and realised that I don't look cute with short hair :(. I will definitely BC by April 2010 the latest, which I am really looking forward to! I decided to go natural after seeing how much damage I was doing to my hair and scalp, for example, pulling clumps out with every wash. I have also always wanted thicker hair, and of course, my natural curls back!
Do you feel that anything changed in your life (i.e. Boost in confidence)
when you became all natural?
Sure! I have learned to love the natural hair God has given me, and the confidence which will come when I get rid of the relaxed ends is inevitable. The more I relaxed, the more hair I lost and the less confident I felt. I am now terribly impatient to see what my hair will look like when I'm free!
When and why did you start your blog?
I only started my blog last month. I originally decided to start a Fotki, but I'm not very good at keeping up to date with the picture taking! I then decided to begin a blog to track my progress. I find it useful when looking at befores and afters, and for the reasons why I began my journey.
What types of topics do you post on your blog?
So far it's only been about hair. It's still only a baby.
What do you love most about blogging?
So far, the freedom to express myself as I wish. I cannot wait for fellow transitioners / newbies / naturals to start offering me advice!
How would you describe your hair?
At the moment my hair is shoulder length with about 3" of new, healthy growth. I think I have type 3c/4a but I can't be sure until I BC. I must admit, I have treated my hair badly up until my journey began, as I had no clue what to do with it, apart from relaxing. With the help of Naturally Curly, and blogs including Going Au Naturale, I have been able to treat my new growth properly. I am still trying to grow my edges back, but I am sure it has already started getting a little thicker :). My staple styles at the moment are a low pony tail or Bantu Knot Outs (which I adore but never lasts more than a day - booo).
What are 5 products your hair can't live without?
1. Coconut Oil
2. Herbal Essences Hello Hydration
3. Castor Oil
4. ORS Hair Mayonnaise
5. Redken All Soft Velvet Whip
What words would you leave with someone who is thinking about going
natural?
Being biased towards natural hair I would say go for it, grow and wear your natural mane with pride! I would also suggest researching the damage that harmful chemicals can cause the skin, scalp and hair.
Ultimately, going natural is a personal decision and not one for the impatient!
Do you have any other electronic means that we can use to keep up with
your natural journey? (i.e. Fotki)
