FAB (Fierce And Beautiful) TWA #4: The Star

Chicas, meet a fellow natural, "The Star",  who is proud of her FAB TWA

When you started rockin' your TWA

June 7, 2009

What were some of the initial reactions to your TWA
Shock & depression were my initial reactions. I wore a wig for 3 weeks because I felt really ugly. I wasn't ready for my big chop when it occured but it was like a now or never moment for me. When I finally had my "reveal" everyone LOVED LOVED LOVED my natural hair and I realized it wasn't so bad lol. I'm loving being natural more and more each new step of the way.

3 things you love most about having a TWA

I just started law school in a very lage southern college town. There are not ethnic hairsalons of *any* kind. One of my classmates called to get a wash and set and was told they simply do not know how to do "colored people's" hair. So, notwithstanding the implications within that statement, I do not have to worry about being subject to someone's hands who  have no knowledge how or desire to really care for my hair. I do not miss going to the salon only to not have my cares and concerns taken into consideration or the pain that certain styles (braids, sew-ins, etc) caused. Also, I was scared about being natural in law shool, but everyone loves it, is always complimenting me, and I stand out from the other girls.

3 products you can't live without for styling your TWA
I am still figuring this out. I was using all Miss Jessie's products, but I switched to Curly Girl method so I've been using Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner for co-washes (no more than 1-2x a week), Kinky-Curly Knot Today and Curling Custard for curl definition when I do wash and gos, and the moisture aspect I'm still struggling with (but Oyin Whipped Shea Butter Pudding is pretty nice)

3 pictures of different looks you've tried with your TWA

1- Initial Big Chop June 7, 2009
2-One month post bc wash and go
3-Three months! Mini frohawk with naturalchica's help 🙂

7. Any sites where we can keep up with your journey: YouTube, fotki album, any other picture sharing site...etc.

Thanks for sharing and for being so honest about the feelings you've encountered throughout this natural journey thus far!
