Vlogger Naturalista: ChiselleCouture!!

Hey chicas!! So the Vlogger Naturalista that I'm introducing today, I came across on YouTube not too long ago. Her gorgeous head of hair caught my attention as well as her unique fasion sense and I immediately decided that I wanted to feature her on my blog! I'm so glad that she willingly accepted my offer.

MEET ChiselleCouture!!

How long have you been natural? And if you haven't been natural your
whole life, what prompted you to make the change?

Well I did my Big Chop Feb 14, 2009, but I transitioned for 18 months. So i've been 100% natural for almost 8 months! Going natural wasnt necessarily my initial plan. I never got relaxers that frequently maybe 3 a year. So I got my last relaxer a week before starting my junior year in High School. Months later I was conditioning my hair and I stopped and realized how nice and curly my roots were. Months after that my roots started getting longer and I got curious about my natural hair so I decided i would stop relaxing and let it grow it out.

Do you feel that anything changed in your life (i.e. Boost in confidence)
when you became all natural?

No nothing has really changed since I've gone natural. I've always been highly confident about myself. But I guess I can say that going natural has prompted my decision to take steps towards becoming a vegetarian, and overall living a healthier lifestyle leading me into my quest of reaching nirvana!

When and why did you start your vlog?

During my transition I found a lot of beautiful natural ladies on youtube vlogging about hair and beauty and i just became addicted! I thought it would be really cool to share my journey and experience so i started uploading videos sometime in June 2009.

What types of topics do you feature on your vlog?

For now its just natural hair. Alot of my beautiful subscribers have been inquiring about a few things off the natural hair topic. So Im going to start vlogging more on personal things like school, beauty, fashion. and fitness.

What do you love most about vlogging?

I love reading comments, and connecting with my natural hair sisters. I've received alot of messages from lovely ladies that watch my channel saying that I've inspired them to transition to natural, or to share their natural journey, or to take that plunge and BC! I know it may seem corny and cliche, but its really exciting to know that I'm passing on helpful information to others and overall helping to change the way we define beauty!

How would you describe your hair?

My hair type is 3c/4a. In the middle my curls are bigger and looser. Around the perimeter my curls are the most defined, really small and tight! I have a few straight strands and instead of cutting them I just let them do their thing! My hair sops up moisture and my scalp can get really dry and itchy if I go too long without co washing.

I love your sense of style...from your apparel to your hair! Where do you get the inspiration for your looks?

Well I've never really followed trends. Its weird though like this summer I ordered a ton of tie-dye shirts from Ebay, a week later i'm on a fashion blog and suddenly I see that tie-dye is in again! My inspiration comes from emotions. If im feeling bold I'll throw on the craziest outfit I have! If im feeling hot and spicy I'll slip on the tightest dress I have and then totally twist it and throw on some nasty sneakers! If Im sorta depressed ... ill kick on some jeans and a huge tee hoping to blend in with the tourist! LOL I would say my style speaks for itself!

What are 5 products your hair can't live without?

I would totally go bald without Creme of Nature Detangling and Conditioning Shampoo, Suave Naturals Conditioner, Whipped Shea Butter, Cantu Leave In, and Coconut Oil!

What words would you leave with someone who is thinking about going
natural?

Your decision to transition is a journey itself, celebrate your mind being freed from your taught concept of beauty! Somedays it will be hard and you'll ask yourself "Why am I doing this? What the hell was I thinking!" Other days you will stare at yourself in the mirror beaming at the sight of a curly root. And one day your mind and body will possess a powerful energy freeing yourself from "the bondage that black women sometimes put on themselves with hair" with a simple SNIP SNIP SNIP!  Trust me ladies it will be worth it in the end!

Do you have any other electronic means that we can use to keep up with
your natural journey? (i.e. Fotki)

As of now, I only have a YouTube Page. CHISELLECOUTURE

Thanks so much for sharing! You are DEFINITELY one of my hair inspirations : )
