Meet Nika (aka Irie Chic)!
*A 2nd time around natural blogger with a fierce sense of style*
How long have you been natural? And if you haven't been natural your whole life, what prompted you to make the change?
I've been natural for about a month and a half. This is my second go around at it. I was natural before for a year and a half , and then I relaxed for 8 months. However, I missed my natural hair so I decided to big chop again. I went natural, because I found natural hair beautiful. I discovered it was the best thing for my fine strands.
Do you feel that anything changed in your life (i.e. Boost in confidence) when you became all natural?
As cliche as this may sound, doing the big chop has been extremely liberating for me. I love this no fuss stage. It works perfectly for my busy schedule. The first time I bc'ed I was much more aware of my hair being short and natural, and at times I felt self-conscious about it. This time around it's like second nature. I don't even think about it, and the positive feedback I've received regarding my bc has been great.
When and why did you start your blog?
I started my blog in March of this year. I'm a creative soul who is drawn to music, art, literature and fashion. I started my personal style blog to showcase my style and also to exchange ideas, thoughts and inspiration with the fashion/style blogging world. I love to express my creativity in the way that I dress and enjoy having fun with clothing. I often mix colors and prints. I love vintage, overtly feminine pieces, and bright colors.
What types of topics do you post on your blog?
I talk about my fashion inspirations and about my personal style. I've also been coined a bargain huntress, so I share my bargain hunting tips including some of the best stores to get a great deal. I also share tidbits about my life.
What do you love most about blogging?
The ability to showcase my creativity and style without question. It's my little space on the web to do as I like with it. I like that freedom.
How would you describe your hair?
It's me. It's my God-given beautiful hair, and I love it.
What are 5 products your hair can't live without?
Karen's Body Beautiful hair milk
Coconut oil
Qhemet Burdock Root Butter Cream (perfect for the winter season as it's very moisturizing)
ORS replenishing pack
A satin pillowcase
What words would you leave with someone who is thinking about going natural?
I say do it. Acquire as much information as you can about natural hair to aid you in the process. Understand that your natural hair is and will be different than your relaxed hair. Also don't try to force your hair to do anything it wasn't meant to do (this resulted in a lot of frustration for me the first time around). Be gentle with your hair. Love it and it will love you back.
Do you have any other electronic means that we can use to keep up with your natural journey? (i.e. Fotki)
My Fotki is currently under construction, so for now it's just my blog.
