Natural Chica is a Miss Jessie’s Grow Out Challenge Winner!!

So do you guys remember my post about the Grow Out Challenge being sponsored by Miss Jessie's and the lovely folks over at NaturallyCurly.Com? Well if you don't...here's a tiny blurb about the ONGOING challenge (still time to join!):

"Join us on this exciting six-month adventure of natural hair. Share your ups and downs as you transition from relaxed to natural with scores of other NaturallyCurly members. We’ll laugh and cry as we discover, bit by bit, the joy of embracing our natural textures. The journey can be daunting, but with the love and support of your curly sisters, it will be exhilarating and liberating.Whatever stage you're in in your transition — thinking about it, just beginning, well into it or fully natural — we welcome you to join us. Share your wisdom with others who may be at a different phase of the grow-out process. Each month, Titi and Miko of Miss Jessie’s will select four lucky entries to receive a Personal Hair Prescription as well as $150 worth of Miss Jessie’s product."

I decided to participate when they first announced the contest to share what helped me during my transitioning journey (since I'm not currently transitioning) and it's been really great to see all of these blogs in the contest dedicated solely to encouraging other ladies to make the transition to natural!

Well last week, Miss Jessie's and NaturallyCurly.Com just about made my day when I received this email:

"Ms. Mae, we are extremely excited to inform you that Titi and Miko have personally chosen you for a personal hair prescription and the monthly hair product prizing."

Yea...I was cheesing BIG TIME : D. I hardly ever win contests, so this caught me by surprise, lol. What I really thought was special though, was that the owners of Miss Jessie's (Ms. Titi and Miko Branch) sent me a personal message of how to specifically use their products for my hair and also shared some really encouraging comments about some of my blog posts and YouTube videos that they actually read and watched! I'm so excited that I just have to share the message with you all. [Note: I'm waiting on my goodie bag of Miss Jessie's products in the mail so I can try out what they've suggested, but if you feel your hair type may be similar to mine, feel free to take their suggestions if you have their products and get to workin'! : ) ]

Miss Mae: Blog #7
Hello! I really enjoyed your blog. It was informative chock fill of info via video and photos. I like the fact that you did a video documentary of your big chop! How brave you are.. I know that you have inspired many women during this grow out challenge to get rid of their relaxers and embrace their natural selves. Kudos to you, your stylist and Candy P for capturing this monumental moment. As far as a prescription goes I think you’re right on point. You understand that going natural is not only about a look but also about having healthy soft hair. I think you have a beautiful face and you can have some more versatility with your hair even at your length. Natural hair has a lot of elasticity to it and it should be treated like a fine fabric. As with fabric;  hair has a certain degree of “memory” to it. In your case if more curl definition is what you are after you can certainly “train “ your hair to enhance it’s curl. My suggestion would be wash your hair with a moisture rich cleansing crème like Miss Jessie’s crème de la Curl and condition with Crème de la Crème. Deep condition with Rapid Recovery Treatment; it’s a wonderful treatment that will enhance shine and seal your cuticle making it ready to accept product. For styling I would recommend Baby Buttercreme or Curly Buttercreme for it’s moisture retaining properties. Apply a tablespoon or two to freshly deep conditioned hair and take small sections and coil it. You can coil your entire head and sit under a hair dryer until its fully dried. After it’s dried “ uncoil” each section. This process should deliver an enhanced soft curl. The beauty of it is the more you coil your hair the more your hair will respond to you in a curl. Refer to coil-out 101 here http://missjessies.com/05_styling/coilout.htm
I love the fact that you named your own twist out style called the Twist out Tiara!” Aah the beauty of  natural hair nomenclature. For your twist out style I would suggest Curly Pudding as a styling aid. It actually binds the hair reducing the frizz factor so that those twists come out defined and last longer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAb2KSLp1tA
Just a few suggestions. But it seems that you are really taking the time to know and understand your hair which is part of the beauty of it.  Now that you are natural you are caring for your hair yourself so it makes sense that no one should know more about your hair than you!!! Congrats!! You are truly a natural chica!!

All the best, Titi & Miko of Miss Jessie's (Grow Out Challenge exclusively on NaturallyCurly.com)

Thank you so much to the coordinators of the Grow Out Challenge, staff at NaturallyCurly.Com and especially Ms. Titi and Miko Branch for taking the time to stop by my blog and sharing such wonderful advice! - *Mae*
