Empresa Spotlight: Dzynd by Sharon

I am a fan of the fashion from the 1920's and the hats and fascinators made by today's featured EMPRESA capture the classic beauty of that time and beyond

Meet Dzynd by Sharon

Q. What is the name of the company you started and what are its origins?
The name of my company is Dzynd By Sharon.  I started the business in my hometown Cincinnati, Ohio in 2007.

Q.What types of products do you sell, and who do your products cater to?
I sell my hand-made hats and fascinators.  I feel that I have a very unique design style that caters to a very unique woman.  My customer loves modern elegance that is mixed with classic and vintage elements.  I also like to add whimsical touches in my designs here and there.

Q. Where do you get the inspiration for the creation of new products in your line?
My inspiration for new creations can come from almost anywhere.  I tend to pull from the past, looking mainly to historical fashion for design inspiration.  I love fashion from the 1940's and 50's.  Nature, music and architecture are also huge inspirations. I am currently working on a small collection of accessories for Spring/Summer 2010.  The inspiration for this collection  comes from the romantic color palette used in the costume and set design for the 2006 movie version of Marie Antoinette.  This collection will feature floral hair combs, hair pins, bracelets, collars and chokers.  Designing these types of products is new for me and I'm excited about it.

Q.What do you enjoy most about having this business?
What I enjoy most about having my business is the fact that I can work from home and do something that I absolutely love.  It's really a dream come true!

Q. Where can we find your products to purchase?
You can find me at www.dzyndbysharon.etsy.com.  I also have hats and fascinators at www.dzyndbysharon.com.  If you see anything on the .com site that is not on Etsy, please writeme@dzyndbysharon.com for ordering information.

Q. What is your favorite product out of your line and why?
I can't really choose a favorite design from any of my collections.  I like them all simply because each one of my hats has a personality and style all its own.

Q. Do you have natural hair? If so, what's your story?
I have been "all natural" since December 2009.  I noticed shortly after moving to Germany in the summer of 2008 that my hair stopped "responding" to relaxers. I thought maybe it had something to do with the difference in the water. I continued to relax my hair anyway. I flew to Cincinnati three weeks before my May 30th wedding.  Once again I relaxed my hair thinking that the water in the states would make a difference.  Wrong!  I had to add a hairpiece to my hair on my wedding day because my hair was so badly damaged. That was the last one, I finally got the message.  A few weeks after I returned to Germany and I did an initial Big Chop in June 2009.  I had about 4 inches of hair at that time.  Every month as my hair grew out, I cut off a bit of the relaxed ends until all of it was gone.

I love my natural hair and the journey thus far has been wonderful!  I want to thank you Mae and all of the other Natural Gems who have inspired me and helped my to learn how to properly care for my natural tresses.
