Meet Kimberly!
When you started rockin' your TWA
I started wearing my TWA right after my big chop on January 14th, 2010. I transitioned about 7 months before chopping it all off. It was a shock at first but I do love it now. After one month of wearing my TWA, and going outside in the cold air with damp hair I decided I would give my hair a break I got my hair braided into kinky twists. I am looking forward to the warmer weather when I can wash and go!
What were some of the initial reactions to your TWA
I honestly was surprised how soft and coily my hair was. After relaxing for 20 years I didn’t know what to expect. I have gotten many compliments. I get a lot of questions too! Some people have told me that they never had the courage to be relaxer free and it’s nice to be an example. I have never had short hair before. The shortest haircut I have had was a bob so it was an immediate shock for most people who have known me for a while. To those who ask why did you cut all your hair off and I simply say; I needed a fresh start.
3 things you love most about having a TWA
It’s nice to be different, its nice to embrace the hair that God has given me and I’m all natural now!
3 products you can't live without for styling your TWA
This is a hard question! Ok so my top three would be … Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp Conditioner (smells like heaven…well actually all of their products do), Afro Veda’s Carrot Bran Shampoo Bar (I believe that is what it is called) and Coconut Oil (and various other oils). Some other products that I use often are Eco Styler Olive Oil gel, Giovanni Direct Leave in, Kinky Curly Knot Today. Oh and good old H2O!!
