After reaching a full year (and one month *smile*) of having natural hair, I really started getting the itch to change things up. When I had relaxed hair, I would always be changing things up by cutting it, getting highlights or even dyeing my entire head! This go around, I decided that I would go for some color in the form of highlights. Since I don't trust myself with doing color myself, I went to a salon that takes many natural hair clients and emphasizes healthy hair care. I was very pleased with the results and will probably be returning there soon. You can watch the vid below to see how they styled my hair.
When I left the salon, I had this goal of seeing how long I could keep it straight without applying heat again. Yea...that was a lost cause when the humidity waged a war against my hair...and won lol. All in all, I was able to wear a straight look for about 3 days and then a "fluffier version" for the remainder of the week : )
Well I decided to wash my hair today (actually sitting under the steamer now lol) and I'm happy to say that my coils reverted back just fine with no appearance of heat damage. That's always one of my worries when styling with heat since it is ALWAYS a risk (even when you use heat protectants- just minimizes the effects). I'll be sure to post some pics later after styling so you all can see how the highlights look when my hair is in it's natural state.
UPDATE
Hope you all are enjoying the last bits of summer!
