A Mother’s Love – Mother’s Day Tribute

The first moment I saw my son’s beautiful face, I was overcome with so many different emotions. I was in awe of this new life that stared back at me and was immediately filled with an indescribable feeling of intense love that I had never experienced before. With tears of elation streaming down my face, I knew right then and there that I would do anything for my son. It has now been a month since I’ve entered the journey of motherhood and each day has been filled with exciting surprises, humbling experiences and a ton of new life lessons. I am now beginning to understand the immense sacrifices that are made as a mother and I've grown to appreciate even more what my own mother has done for me throughout my life.

My mother is a beautiful and strong pillar of encouragement, inspiration, and support. Her beauty radiates inside and out and is evident in how she genuinely cares for others. I and others can attest that when you pour out your heart to her, she not only listens but always has an encouraging word to share as well. The strength and grace she exhibits through challenging situations is an inspiration to me to remain positive no matter what difficulties I may face in life.

Throughout my life my mother has been right there for me to support me in my dreams and I know I will do the same for my son. As I raise my son, I plan to instill in him a strong love for God, self and others as my mother did for me growing up. As a black child growing up in America, I want my son to be proud of who he is, his history, and to be strong enough to not allow others’ opinions define who he is.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day this upcoming weekend, I want to thank you mom for being such a positive light and for being my “cheerleader” in life. The sacrifices you have made for my benefit have been endless and I want to publicly let you know that I am so thankful to have you in my life and I love you so much!

I also want to thank the other “mothers” in my life for their unconditional love and support throughout the years. Thank you grandma for inspiring me with your hard work ethic and “living life to the fullest” mentality. Your love for continuous learning and exploring the world around you has had a tremendous impact in helping to shape and attain my own goals in life.

A special thank you to my mother-in-law for welcoming me into their family and for giving birth to and raising my wonderful husband, a man I am so proud to call my forever love and father of our beautiful baby boy. I celebrate with you all on this Mother’s Day!
